Pastor Doug Richards

Pastor Doug was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the age of eleven he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized two years later. At age fifteen his family moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, where he attended Maranatha Baptist Academy and continued his education at Maranatha Baptist University, graduating with majors in Bible and Church Ministries and minoring in Coaching.

During his college years, Pastor married his high school sweetheart, Kris. It was also during college that God gave Pastor Doug a passion to work with young people. After graduation from college, he began ministering as youth pastor in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, where he served in both the church and the Christian school. During that time, he was able to impact many young people as he helped in the classroom and coached both wrestling and volleyball.  Pastor Doug then moved to Greendale, Wisconsin, where he continued to work with young people as  youth pastor in the local church and coach wrestling at the local public high school.

In 1994, Pastor and his family moved to Champaign, Illinois, where he broadened his ministry, serving as youth pastor, choir director, Awana director, as well as speaking at camps and conferences and assisting the pastor. Pastor Doug had a number of opportunities to help oversee Bible clubs, missions trips and many other ministries. During his time in Illinois, he continued his education by taking classes in Biblical Counseling, which was helpful while working alongside the fire department as an Emergency Service Support Team member.

In 2002, the Lord called Pastor Doug to the area of college ministry where he accepted a position as the director of student ministries at Maranatha Baptist University.  In 2004, Pastor Doug assumed the responsibilities of the dean of students at the college where he served for eight years.  While serving as dean, Pastor Doug also ministered by teaching at the college and counseling students, helping to develop future Christian leaders.  In 2010, Pastor and his wife, Kris, also had the opportunity to lead a college group on a summer mission’s trip to Ukraine and run Bible clubs for the children.

God continued to work in Pastor Doug’s heart, and in 2012, he resigned his position as dean of students and returned to church ministry where he began pastoring in the Waukesha area. In October 2013, God led Pastor Doug and a group of believers to start a new church in Waukesha called Grace Baptist Church.

Pastor continues to have a love for the Lord and people, desiring to share Christ with the community and help people grow in their relationship with the Lord. Pastor is excited to be Grace Baptist Church’s first pastor and looks forward to what God will continue to do for His glory!
